Clyde Potts Reservoir and Water Treatment Plant SMCMUA has an established optimization program for the Clyde Potts Reservoir sourcewater for the control of harmful algal blooms (HABs). The Authority also has an established monitoring program for cyanotoxins – the harmful byproduct of the algal blooms. The monitoring data would be used to trigger customer notifications as recommended by the USEPA where the triggers are used to define “do not drink” notices. Note that cyanotoxins are currently “unregulated contaminants” both at the national and State level and that the optimization and monitoring programs and notifications are conducted on a voluntary basis. Additional information on HABs is provided below. If you have any additional questions, please contact Customer Service.
